Well, you could, but you will start to accrue fines for them at a higher rate than ordinary library items and your fellow students will certainly appreciate the opportunity to check out the item when it is expected back.

Items that are checked out for a limited number of hours (1, 3, 5, or 24) have a $.75 fee added for every hour they are late.
Items that are checked out for a limited number of days (3 or 5) have a $2.50 fee added for every day they are late.
